Interested community members are urged to come forward and help shape the future of the Mapoon Shire by attending the scheduled intending councillor workshop set for Friday, 20 January (in the morning) at the Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council Chambers (contact the council on 40909124 for more information).

The role as a local councillor is suited to people who are:

- Focused on addressing community challenges;
- Interested in legislation and policy that impacts your local community
- People who can work as a team to address complex matters.

The council elected will be the second Mapoon Council to operate under the Local Government Act 2009.
