RADIO MAPOON

The Mapoon Community is in the process of applying for a license to operate a Community Radio Station.
The Radio Station will form an important part of th social infrastructure of Mapoon, helping to keep everyone informed, providing weather, roads and other safety information and acting as an entertainment medium.

The Station will also give Mapoon people a voice, an opportunity to air their views on local projects and issues as well as what's happening in the outside world. It will provide access to information, education and advice.

Mapoon Radio will also act as a keeping place for the stories of Mapoon's past as well as recording stories of major events and day to day life for future generations.

The Community is looking to the Station to provide training in a new industry to the Shire and opportunities for employment.

It is expected the Station will broadcast across the whole Shire and the Council is investigating the use of the Internet as a carrier for the Station's signal, which will also be streamed on the Net.

Council has made space for the Radio Station in a new building that should be ready for use in the first half of 2006. The model of the building is shown below.
