Meetings
When do Council meet?
During 2012 Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council Meetings will be held on the Third Thursday of each month. (Click here to view Schedule).
Meetings start at either 8.30am or 9.00am and are held in the Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council Chambers, Red Beach Road Mapoon,.
Visitors are welcome to observe Council meetings and anyone wishing to meet with the full Council can make contact via phone or email to request time outside of Council meetings.
How do you know what will be discussed at a meeting?
Council Administration prepares a Council Agenda atleast one week prior to the Council meeting.
There are items on the agenda which happen every meeting, this includes items like:
- Previous meeting minutes for adoption
- Council Correspondence Register
- Administration Reports (eg from the CEO or DCEO)
- Monthly Financial Reports from the Accountant
- Council Program Reports (eg Land and Sea, Housing)
Council must be notified of all items to be discussed at the meeting as they are required to consider items and make decisions. Council Administration prepares "meeting papers" to accompany the agenda so any reports being made to the Council must be in writing and prepared one week prior also.

Recording Council Meetings
All Council meetings are Minuted to record the decisions Councils makes.
A member of Council Administration team (a staff member) is present at all Council meetings to record the meeting minutes.
The minutes of the previous meeting are provided in the meeting papers and Councillors review the minutes to ensure they are a true and accurate record of decisions made.
Council Meeting Minutes are available for public review. Click HERE to view Council Meeting minutes (PDF Documents).
What decisions have Council made?
Council passes resolutions when a decision is made. As these decisions are about Mapoon Community they are minuted and a resolutions register is maintained.
