Governance
Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council is a leader in best practice governance in Local Government.
The Council has five successive unqualified audits to its credit, an achievement that ranks Mapoon amongst the best local governments in Australia for financial management.
Mapoon Council has an unblemished record in its dealings with State and Federal Governments and with business entities.
No-one has ever questioned the integrity, honesty and fairness of Mapoon's Councillors or Council.
Mapoon's Mayor was recently named, by Queensland's Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy, as one of Australia's Indigenous Leaders.
The Use of IT
Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council is a leader in the application of information technology in remote areas.Mapoon Council uses an internal server network to link together all sections of Council's operations and advanced wireless technology to provide its employees and the Community with high speed access to the internet.
Mapoon was the first Cape Community to take up the services offered by the Cape York Digital Network and remains the most extensive and complete user of those services.
Operations Management
With the shortage of Licensed Drivers a Shuttle Pool has been implemented where Transport is being provided and managed to pick up Council Workers and Mapoon Store Staff. As well as catering for residents within the Community and also Transport to Weipa regarding services to Hospital, Shopping Centre, Bank and also Weipa Airport.
It was decided to transfer some Administrative responsibilities over to Operational Area. A new structure now focusing on activities in CDEP Workers, Transportation, Essential Service/Fencing, Road Works, Workshop Maintenance, Horticulture and liasing with the Crabbing venture and the Mapoon Store.
Because of implemented Transportation Services; Operations Administration has compiled Log Sheets and Weekly Vehicle Checklists to monitor all Council Vehicles are fully roadworthy. Which supports Vehicle Maintenance for our Workshop Mechanic/Supervisor to monitor all Service requirements. As well as Weekly monitoring and input of Fuel Reconciliation data for Mapoon Council.

Council Meetings
Council Meetings are held the third Tuesday and Wednesday evenings of each month.
Meetings start at 6.00 pm and all are welcome to observe the meetings.
Anyone wishing to meet with the full Council should ring the Office Manager to request time on the agenda.
